Cancer pictureCommon information about cancer

Cancer is the most mysterious and unbelievable pathology. First of all we have to understand what is a malignant growth actually. We can understand the malignant growth as a form of proliferation of the cells (tissues) which inclined to the uncontrollable growth. It is an autonomic, unlimited and immortal growth. But all of these statements are very relative. All cancer tumors are devided into two parts, into malignant and benign tumors.

Epidemiology of the cancer

Cancer and actually it's epidemiology has been researching for more than thousand years. Common epidemiology says that cancer appears more frequently among the men and more rarely among the women, frequency of the cancer tumors increases with an age.

Etiology of the cancer

There are external and internal etiological factors. All they are divided into chemical factors, physical factors, biological factors. Carcinogenic factors are conventionally divided into initiators and promoters.

Chemical factors. There are known more than 2000 chemical agents which can cause a cancer tumor. They include aromatic hydrocarbons, nitrous agents, ammonia, asbestos, phenol, herbicides, insecticides, mineral fertilizers, vinyl chloride, nickel, phenacetin, phenobarbital, immunity depressants. The most well-known factor is a cigarette smoking . The cigarette smoke contains more than 30 initiators and promoters of the cancer. If the cigarette smoking has been liquidated the cancer frequency would have been decreased by a third. So in addition to the above I can say that people have to fight against cancer. How ? They have to decrease gradually the total amount of chemical carcinogens in the environment.

Physical carcinogens. There are natural physical carcinogens which include ultraviolet radiation, cosmic radiation (gamma rays, neutrons), radionuclides such as carbon, potassium, radon. According to the modern information the alarm level of the illumination is 0.05 Sv per year for the professional workers who work with a source of ionizing radiation and 0.005 Sv for that people which live on the territory which is controlled in radiation aspect.

Biological carcinogens. Parasites such as Schistosoma are able to cause the cancer of the bladder and the cancer of the liver ducts. Aspergillus flavus - aflatoxin causes hepatocellular carcinoma. Viruses have some carcinogenic features too. Actually they are the viruses of the hepatitis, adenovirus, immunodeficiency virus which can cause the Kaposi's sarcoma. Epstein-Barr virus causes the Burkitt's lymphoma. Virus of the simple herpes causes the infectious mononucleosis and Hodgkin's disease. Virus of the genital herpes causes the carcinoma of uterine cervix. Papilloma virus causes the papilloma of the skin, condylomas and the carcinoma of uterine cervix.

So, now you understand that cancer is a very-very polyetiologic disease.
