General information about Wilms tumor
Wilms's tumor is a one of the most frequent oncolohical disease among the children. It usually occurs between 2-5 years of life. There is an information that it occured even in the intrauterine period of life of a child. It rarely occurs that both kidneys are injured.
Pathologic anatomy
Wilms tumor is a tumor which is characterised by the polymorphism. What is means ? It means that there are conjunction elements, epithelial elements, osseous elements, muscular element. Yes, it is something like teratoma but in the kidney. Now you guess ? It is easy, you see ? The Wilms tumor is more particularly detected in the central part of the kidney. Nephroblastoma (Wilms tumor) is characterised by infiltrative growth. It can infiltrate the renal parenchyma and also surrounding tissues. The metastases are usually spread by lymphogenous and hematogenous ways. Hematogenous metastases more frequently injure a liver, lungs, a pleura, bones. Lymphogenous metastases usually injure retroperitoneal nodes.
Clinical picture of the Wilms tumor
At the beginning it only declares itself by feebleness, lack of appetite, loss of weight. More particularly it is discovered by the parents of a child. Actually when they bath their child they notice a strange , dense, tuberous creation which occupies the most part of the abdomen. With the growth appears pains, hematuria, a clinical picture of the remote metastases.
Diagnostics of the Wilms tumor
The main diagnostic procedures include the following:
1.Excretory urography (pyelography) with pneumoretroperitoneum.
2. Angiography.

Treatment of the Wilms tumor
The treatment of the Wilms tumor is complex. It includes surgical method, radial and cytostatic influence. Surgical method consists in nephrectomy. Radial method uses before and after the operation.
